UTI Home Remedy

Often referred to by its acronym, UTI, a urinary tract infection is a common bacterial infection. It can cause pain during urination and/or the need to urinate frequently. Urine is often cloudy and may have an unpleasant odor because it contains bacteria. The cause of these infections is often bacteria called Escherichia coli. When it gets into the kidney or the bladder it can multiply rapidly and cause an infection in any part of the urinary tract.

Treatment depends on the location and the seriousness of the infection. An infection in the upper urinary tract is often more serious than in other parts of the urinary tract. They may require a trip to the doctor and a full course of antibiotics. People who get relatively minor UTIs frequently handle them on their own.

Who gets them?

Women are far more prone to urinary tract infections than men because of the close proximity of the urethra and the anus. Men also have prostates that secrete fluids that protect them from bacterial infections. UTIs are extremely common in young sexually active women who are prone to bladder infections. Symptoms are usually short-lived. Most healthy young women rely on simple remedies to cure low-level infections.

Cranberry Juice:

While the research is far from conclusive, people have been using cranberry juice as a treatment for UTIs for many years. In fact, medical professionals have been recommending it since a study found it may make urine more acidic. Since the bacterium that causes these infections hates acidic surroundings, doctors surmised that cranberry juice could cure mild urinary tract infections.

Baking Soda:

A popular ingredient in many remedies, baking soda can cure a minor UTI when mixed in a glass of water. It is believed that the baking soda may help raise acid balance in your bladder, which may help kill the bacteria.

Drink Water:

Because the bacterium that causes these infections leaves through the urine, it is important to drink lots of water. Fruit and vegetable juices are good too, but H2O is a better home remedy for UTI because you can drink a lot more of it and it won’t give you sugar shock or an upset stomach. Going to the bathroom frequently will cure most minor urinary tract infections. Medical professionals recommend at least ten glasses each day.

Fresh Fruit:

As we mentioned, bacteria has a hard time growing or multiplying in a highly acidic environment. Therefore, if you consume highly acidic fruits, it is possible to chase them off. We have already talked about fruit juices, but what about fresh fruit? Because nutrients are lost in the juicing process and water is added, fruit juices are normally not as acidic as fresh fruits. Fresh cranberry, blackberries, and prunes top the list of highly acidic fruit. But be careful. Eating too many acidic foods can give you a stomach ache. It is best to only have a handful of berries or prunes with each meal.
