Jock Itch Treatment

Not only is having jock itch very comfortable, it is also embarrassing. It is not the type of thing that you want to discuss with anyone, not even your doctor. One of the ways that you can avoid a discussion about your jock itch, which is also called ringworm, is to try a home remedy.

Avoid the Fungus

The best way to avoid jock itch is by not coming into contact with the fungus. Most people pick it up when they are in a community shower. The best way to avoid the fungus is to make sure that you always wear a pair of shoes, even in the shower, and that you do not walk around barefoot.

Tea Tree Oil

One of the best home remedies for jock itch, tea tree oil comes from the tea tree which is a native tree in Australia. For as long as anyone can remember the oil collected from the leaves has been used to treat an assortment of minor health problems, including jock itch. The great thing about tea tree oil is that it is fairly easy to find, most drug stores sell it, and it is very easy to use. After taking a shower all you have to do is dry off and then use a cotton ball to rub the tea tree oil in all the areas that are being bothered by the fungus. If you do not have tea tree oil on hand, you can do the same things with apple cider vinegar, but that tends to smell a bit pungent and sometimes stings when it comes into contact with the skin, especially sores.

Avoid Processed Sugar

When you are trying to clear up a bout of jock itch one of the worse things you can do is eat a diet that is rich in processed sugars. Fungus loves processed sugar and the more you eat, the harder it is going to be to get rid of the jock itch. This is a really good time to try to convert to a diet that is rich in vegetables instead. In addition to eating more veggies and fewer candy bars you should try to make sure that you eat some garlic every day. Garlic has an adverse effect on fungus and eating it will help you clear up your outbreak much sooner.

Dress Appropriately

When you have jock itch your first priority should be to get it cleared up as quickly as you possibly can. This means that you should make sure that you are wearing clothes that fit a little looser than you would normally wear. If you are prone to sweating a lot during the course of the day, you might want to have a spare pair of underwear tucked away in your car. Covering yourself with a layer of baby powder will also help you stay dry and discourage the fungus from spreading. Jock itch spreads easily and is something that your friends are not going to want you to share with them. When you are dealing with an outbreak of the fungus you should not only avoid sharing clothes, but you should make sure that you are the only person who is using your towel.
